Dr. Tobias Omega 3 Fish Oil has an enteric coating. The enteric coating protects the omega 3 from the stomach acid and delivers the omega 3 intact to the intestines. The capsule dissolves there.
Our coating is made following the USP standard method. The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) is a scientific nonprofit organization that sets standards for the identity, strength, quality, and purity of medicines, food ingredients, and dietary supplements manufactured, distributed and consumed worldwide. USP’s drug standards are enforceable in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration.
All of our ingredients used the coating are very commonly used and are USP standard in pharmaceutical products. The blend however, is proprietary information. The enteric coating protects the omega 3 from the stomach acid and delivers the omega 3 intact to the intestines. In products without enteric coating, some of the omega 3 is destroyed in the stomach.
Since with enteric coating the omega 3 is intact when it reaches the intestines, the amount of omega 3 to be absorbed is higher - up to three times higher according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
The enteric coating also helps reduce fish burps, which is probably the most common complaint about fish oil and major reason to stop omega 3 fish oil supplements.
In products without enteric coating, some of the omega 3 is destroyed in the stomach.
